Scranton PA Community Information

Scranton, Pennsylvania is located in Lackawanna County. In 1856, the Borough of Scranton was officially incorporated and named after its industrious founders, brothers Seldon T. and George W. Scranton. The Scranton brothers produced iron T-rails for the Erie Railroad in New York state.

According to the Wikimedia Foundation's Scranton link, as of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 76,415 (2003 estimate: 74,320) and is Pennsylvania's sixth most populous city.

Major attractions include Steamtown National Historic Site, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and Montage Mountain.

Scranton is served by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Martz bus line. Future plans for a commuter train from NYC to Scranton can be found NJ Transit - Lackawanna Cutoff

According to Scranton PA's official website, major construction projects for the city of Scranton tally $115 million with an additional $68 million for infrastructure improvements. Scranton is presently undergoing a downtown revitalization with $26.8 million of funds invested.
